Real engagement, delivered as a D365 F&O developer at Impax Business Solutions. The client is anonymized for confidentiality — pending owner approval before naming.

The context

A leading East African insurance group was implementing Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations as its core enterprise ERP, serving 200–1,000 users across finance and operations. The rollout spanned six core modules: General Ledger, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets, Inventory, and Procurement & Sourcing.

The problem

Standard D365 F&O rarely matches exactly how an insurer runs its finance and operations. The business needed custom behaviour, clean data migrated from legacy systems, and trustworthy reporting for finance, claims and underwriting — all delivered without compromising Microsoft’s continuous upgrade path.

The approach

As part of the technical team, I delivered components across the full lifecycle — build, test, UAT and hypercare:

  • Upgrade-safe customizations. Designed and developed custom AOT elements — tables, forms, classes, data entities, and table/form extensions — in X++ using the Chain of Command pattern, extending standard F&O behaviour without breaking upgrade paths.
  • Data migration. Configured Data Management Framework (DMF) projects to migrate master data and historical transactions from legacy systems during cutover.
  • Reporting. Built SSRS and Power BI reports surfacing financial and operational KPIs for finance, claims and underwriting teams.
  • Requirements to specs. Translated business requirements into technical specifications alongside senior architects.
  • Stabilization. Resolved post-go-live defects and tuned performance of high-volume transactional workflows in production.

The stack

Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations, X++ with the extension framework and Chain of Command, Data Management Framework, SSRS, Power BI, Azure DevOps and Lifecycle Services (LCS).

The result

The implementation went live to 200+ users across six core modules, with upgrade-safe customizations, migrated master and historical data, and near real-time KPI visibility for finance, claims and underwriting. Post-go-live, high-volume transactional workflows were stabilized and tuned for production load.
